I was always a visual artist and storyteller at heart

Cyprus 1981

Born in 1969 in West Germany at the height of the cold war, I was always a visual artist and storyteller at heart. A daydreamer with visions, thoughts and ideas.

I spent my childhood living in Germany, Cyprus as well as throughout England and Scotland. The son of a British soldier and the eldest of five siblings.

Swimming in the warm waters of the eastern Mediterranean in 1982 - wearing diving fins and face mask, breathing through a snorkel whilst clutching a three pronged spear gun - hunting fish and octopus - I had no inkling that years later in 1994 I would be teaching English in a dusty, communism-ravaged Polish town in Lower Silesia, recently opened up to The West.

A country I had never thought much about earlier in my youth, but which would later come to dominate my life.
