The screens would die and turn black

He looked up at the blue sky and the white clouds moving slowly by. It wouldn't be blue much longer.

They continued to walk around him, oblivious to reality.

What would they do without their phones? The screens would die and turn black. They would stop walking, staring in disbelief. Immobilised, not knowing what to do next. Their fingers hanging in space, no longer scrolling.

The data centres would stop humming and grow cold. Then the sky would darken and all the plants and animals die.

Only the phones would remain, discarded, lifeless, but intact.
